“It’s a little Anxious,” he said to himself, “to be a Very Small Animal Entirely Surrounded by Water.”
— A.A. Milne, “Winnie-the-Pooh”
Just the mention of a beloved children’s book can cause the shoulders to lower, minds to time travel and ethereal images to magically appear. We want to write about the feelings that surface when we allow ourselves to be transported: curiosity and discovery, adventure and transformation, vulnerability and ambiguity, error and acceptance. We believe these are not only necessary feelings to acknowledge when dealing in a world of complexity and information over-load, but an essential ingredient for inspiring leaders to hold on to their visions, practice patience, inspire others and lay down the stones to a better path ahead.
If you are a leader who wishes to regain that sense of wonder, to remember how it felt to see the world through the eyes of a child, to humbly remember we are all surrounded by water, then we hope you will enjoy our musings about leadership, inspiring children’s books, and our connections to myths and tales from long ago. We hope, on your path to becoming, we will inspire you to read a picture book, fable or fairy tale, allowing yourself to be transported away, then back again, to a clearer-eyed sense of presence and wonder for what is about to unfold. For the rules to the kingdom are of your making, but how others see them, well, that is where this journey begins….
